The Foster Grandparent Program provides an avenue for seniors (55 and over on a fixed income) the ability to volunteer with children and those with special needs in Laurens, Greenwood, Abbeville, and Saluda Counties through Piedmont Agency on Aging. The Foster Grandparent volunteers receive a small non-taxable stipend to supplement their income.
The Foster Grandparent Program is a National Program and was originally developed in 1965 as a cooperative effort between the Office of Economic Opportunity and the Department of Health, Education and Welfare.
Today there are over 340 Foster projects nationwide with over 31,000 volunteers.
