Meals on Wheels
Approximately 850 meals are prepared in our kitchen for Meals on Wheels each day. Each meal consists of meat, two vegetables, dessert, bread and beverage (milk or juice).  We have several diets available:  Regular, Diabetic, Ground Meat, Pureed and No Added Salt.  All meals are approved by a registered dietician and provide 1/3 RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance) per meal.  Our faithful volunteers deliver these hot, nutritious meals right to the door of the individual.  At this time, the volunteer is able to check on the welfare of the client and make contact on their behalf if needed.  In addition to hot meals, frozen meals are available for those that live outside our hot meal routes or those that need weekend service.

Boxed Meals on Wheels
These meals are provided to individuals who can do some lite meal preparation.  Each box is packed with 10 – 14 meals and contain items which are shelf stable or refrigerated.  Items like bread, fresh fruit, fresh produce, canned meats, breakfast items, sandwich meats, canned fruit, chips, juice, etc. are in each box.  These meals provide 1/3 RDA per meal.

Eligibility
Piedmont Agency on Aging has several funding sources available for services.  Individuals qualify for service according to the criteria established by each funding source.  Sources are federal, state, and local funding.  These funding sources provide a portion of the cost of each meal.  The agency relies on donations from recipients and the community to help cover the remainder of the cost of each meal.  No one will ever be denied services because of their inability to pay.  For more information, call 864-223-2233 in Greenwood County, 864-366-9666 in Abbeville County, 864-938-0572 in Laurens County, and 864-554-5499 in Saluda County.
